Hello guys, I wouldn't consider myself as a book warm. But I do love to read. Reading can always rich you inside and within. Opening I want to share a quote of Sir Francis Bacon.

"Reading maketh a full man. Conference, a ready man. Writing, an exact man."

How do I bump into this amazing book?

The other day, I was listening to one podcast host interviewing this book’s author, Jay Papasan. They discussed about how focusing on one thing can change your life and how to achieve your goal in all the aspects in your life. So, I looked it up and bought the book.

Some people might think self-help books are trite and cliché. Sometimes, I agree with that. Being tire of hearing people telling you what to do. However, sometimes this kind of books helps a lot as long as the flow of you and the author are connected.

What do I love about this book?

First of all, I think it has special design with visualized illustrations, charts and quotes between the paragraph. And it has broad margin which you can take notes, feel being involved and make your own book. Also, It’s very easy reading.

Secondly, I like the highlight they put under the sentences which the author wanted to emphasize. You will have connection in between and without interrupt. And some little practices and questions in the content that you can take a pause to think and interact with the author and incorporate the ideas into your life.

What was is all about?

It’s about how to simplified things in your life by doing the most demanded task at the right time. The One Thing. Aim high but start small. Persevere and one step at a time. This idea can be applied to every aspect in your life from little to big and from relationships, career to personal growth.

What I’ve learned from the book?

- Focus

We all have only so much time and energy, so when we spread out, we end up spread thin. We want achievements to add up, but it usually takes subtraction not addition. Instead of doing things with side effects, we should pay more attention to what matters and bring the most value. I especially like what the author said in the book.

Extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus.”

Patient

Secondly, domino effects. According to theory, domino falls could not only topple many things, they could also topple bigger thing. It’s said that a single domino is capable of bring down another domino that is actually 50 percent larger. But the question is how to build the chain at the first place.

Sometimes, we want the success too bad to be patient. Success is built sequentially, rather than simultaneously. Therefore, be patient and doing the right thing. Find the right lead domino and whack away at it until it falls to the right direction.

Purpose

It’s mentioned that to implement the one thing, three elements are bound together. Purpose, priority and productivity. Our purpose sets our priority and our priority determines the productivity our action produce. Therefore, discover your purpose in life is vital. To find what really matters to you and fulfill the life you desire. Just start and ask questions and try as much as you can. Also, fail as much as you can if needed.

“People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.” -F.M Alexander

It’s all about mind-set. Just set your purpose and it will lead you to the one thing.

There is a quote in the book that inspire me a lot, Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”-George Bernard Shaw. All the times, I want to find out who I am and what kind of person I want to be. Turns out that doesn’t matter at all. If you want to be that kind of person, you just be that kind of person and be true to yourself. If you want to have that kind of life, you just go out and build your life and do the right thing. If you want to achieve that goal, you just do whatever it takes to accomplish it even though others say you can’t. Always remember that if you don’t like it, you can always change your mind. It’s your life.
